General
When it came out, Yamaha called the CP4 the best stage piano they had ever designed, and that's really saying something considering they've have more than 100 years of craft experience! This electronic musical instrument is easy to use and weighs just 17.5 kilograms, making it a cinch to take with you wherever you need to go. The natural wood keyboard is comprised of 88 wooden keys with synthetic ivory tops and Graded Hammer technology, which ensures a natural piano sound and feel for a sublime and realistic playing experience.
Advanced sound system and effects
An advanced sound system is housed inside the CP4 Stage piano: the Spectral Component Modelling technology (SCM). Physical modelling technology combines with samples of world-renowned Yamaha concert grands (CHX, CHIIIs and S6) and the classic electric pianos (CP80, DX7, Rhodes and Wurlitzer) to create optimal tone generation. Because you probably want to use other sounds in addition to those from pianos, there are a total of 433 different sounds available with the CP4. These aren't just any sounds either, because each instrument has a large number of effects, such as reverb and 9 chorus effects with 46 different presets! More possibilities are available when you adjust the pitch and modulation wheels or the layer and split functions.
Interface and connections
Despite the enormous number of possibilities the Yamaha CP4 offers, it's actually incredibly easy to navigate. This is thanks to the clear and organized arrangement of the buttons and the easy-to-read display. Scroll easily through the menus on the display via the data knob, and set up the most important functions like volume, splits, layers and tone colours in just seconds. In addition to all of these buttons, Yamaha has still managed to find room for an impressive number of connection ports. These include connections for sustain and expression pedals, MIDI connectivity (USB and DIN-5), line-ins, line-outs, a headphone jack and a USB data storage port.
