Heritage Audio set their engineers a simple task to mark their 15th anniversary: improve the Baby R.A.M. After weeks of deliberation, they unanimously reached the same conclusion: there was nothing to improve. A purely passive design using top-quality components cannot be any more transparent than 100 per cent transparent, and you cannot simply improve the usability of a category-defining, best-selling monitor controller. So what was left to do? They looked at every photo, every comment, every review – and the only recurring criticism wasn’t about performance. It was about the appearance; the burgundy red of the original Baby has now been replaced by grey or black in this new version. Less vintage, but not a jot less classy.
