General
A new Moog synth is always a happening. The primal father of the modern synth, analogue, legendary, sought-after, and usually pricey. The Moog Messenger is still analogue, even similar in layout to the famous Minimoog, yet very affordable. With 32 full-size keyboard keys, it's a compact synth, and at less than 5 kg, it's quite transportable. Naturally, it deserves a place in your studio, but especially for gigs, it's one that's easy to carry around due to its size and weight. For stage situations, however, keep in mind that it is an analogue synth that needs warm-up time, also read the tips!
Features of the Moog Messenger
The aforementioned similarity to the Minimoog is obvious when you look at the layout, the now familiar parameter groups are in their familiar places. And yet the Messenger is a bit more than just a Minimoog. For instance, there is a multimode filter, with 24 dB LPF, 12 dB LPF, supplemented by 24 dB bandpass and 12 dB highpass. The envelopes are also fully ADSR, unlike ADS on the Minimoog. An extensive arpeggiator/sequencer is also included, as well as preset storage. In terms of looks and content, it's actually more of a contemporary synth than a vintage lookalike. So no wooden siding - nor its weight. Needless to say, the sound design is up for grabs, no menus, so quick results as soon as you know this beast. And furthermore, what else needs to be said about the quality that doesn't already leave you guessing.... an analogue Moog... 'nuff said!
Tips or comments about this product
- Note: Moog recommends letting the Messenger warm up for 15 to 25 minutes before use. If you don't, you run the risk of the oscillators being unstable. It is also recommended not to use the Messenger directly in the sun; temperature is a determining factor with the Messenger.
