With the JD-Xi, Roland has issued a compact synthesizer with quite grand features. You might remember the Gaia, a synth that boasts the same characteristics. The JD-Xi is a compact crossover synthesizer with 37 mini keys and a housing that's easy to transport. Thanks to its mobile proportions, its practical controls and its sound options, the Roland synth is ideal for live applications. With a polyphony of 129 voices, it's sure to make an impression on stage.

The sound of the JD-Xi

The JD-Xi offers four parts: two digital parts (ROM samples), a drum part (also ROM samples) and an analogue monophonic part. The digital section of the synth provides you with another 128 voices for a total of 129 voices. The synth's sample collection includes all the familiar sounds (horns, strings, pads, key instruments, etc.), so you can easily create layered soundscapes without fear of note stealing. To add some extra flavour to your sounds, Roland has added popular effects like delay, reverb, flanger and distortion.

Other characteristics

The analogue section of the JD-Xi offers a choice between sawtooth, triangle or square waveforms (with adjustable pulse width). The synthesis system is simple but effective - after all, most key players don't have time to deal with hundreds of parameters during a gig. An x0x-style step sequencer is at your disposal, as is an arpeggiator, and you can use the included gooseneck microphone to add vocoder effects to your own voice. Create robot voices, or use the AutoPitch and AutoNote features for even more options!
