Roland n/vision Boutique synthesizer

General

No famous name, no nostalgia, no golden eighties: the n/vision relies purely on its sound. Roland built a completely new Boutique instrument around wavetable synthesis and the brand's latest tech; anyone familiar with Roland's n/zyme software will recognise the approach. It's a synth you'll be spending a lot of time with, thanks to the immense depth of its synthesis engine. You can pick it up and tweak knobs right away, but digging deeper into the menus reveals sounds that go far beyond what you'd expect from a mini synth. It demands a bit more effort and insight than a plug-and-play synth, but the payoff is a palette that reaches way past the usual familiar tones. The n/vision is built for the synth enthusiast who prefers exploring new territory over retreading familiar ground.

Two wavetable layers and a wave shaper: the Roland n/vision

At its heart are two wavetable layers that you can blend and shape independently for the upper and lower parts—delivering breathing pads, biting leads, and constantly evolving timbres. On top of that, a wave shaper non-linearly processes the signal to add new harmonics, going far beyond traditional wavetable synthesis. Oscillator modulation, wavetable position, a spread control for stereo width, and a step LFO give you endless ways to bring motion to your sound. The filter is an analogue-style model with drive, complemented by several filter modes inspired by classic synthesizers. Thanks to two-part multitimbrality alongside dual and split modes, you can build two sounds at once within a single instrument.

Effects, sequencer, and keyboard: the Roland n/vision complete package

An MFX section featuring 17 effect types—including the legendary JUNO chorus—is paired with a dedicated delay and a reverb offering five types plus a shimmer mode that adds an octave-shifted texture. A two-part polyphonic 64-step sequencer with up to eight notes per step and motion recording lets patterns evolve naturally, while the arpeggiator takes things even further. You don't need to purchase the K-25m keyboard separately, as it comes right in the box alongside a built-in speaker and power via four AA batteries or USB-C. It's a special keyboard thanks to its white finish—so while its unique looks mean it's not strictly identical in styling to the standard K-25m, functionally it is the exact same unit. With USB-C audio and MIDI, traditional MIDI ports, and an external clock input, it integrates seamlessly into the rest of your setup.
