General

The Moog Subsequent 25 is a compact paraphonic analogue synthesizer that lends itself well to use in a keyboard rig. A quick peek at the control panel tells us this model is built on a solidly functional foundation. You're getting two oscillators with hard-sync support, a mixer with extra sub-oscillator and noise generator, a filter, adjustable glide speed and two sets of ADSR envelopes. In many ways, this looks like the same or a slightly less encompassing foundation like the one the MiniMoog is built on. While this might seem the case, let's find out if that's really true.

Under the Bonnet of the Moog Subsequent 25

This Moog model comes with a wealth of functionality which, according to Moog, can be found under the bonnet. All of these parameters can be accessed via the Subsequent 25 itself or via MIDI and the free Editor/Librarian. To give you an example: the front panel filter control allows you to use it in combination with cutoff, resonance, drive, envelope and keyboard-scaling but open up the bonnet and you get access to touch-sensitivity and number of filter poles (6, 12, 18, 24 dB) settings, as well external audio levels, pitch bender options, monophonic/paraphonic and the type of glide. There are plenty more adjustable parameters but the bottom line is that this synth has way more tricks up its sleeve than its compact size would have you guess.

A Genuine Moog

On the left, you can find the connector panel including audio out and inputs. It's possible to route an external signal to the Subsequent 25 and there are CV/gate connectors for smooth integration of vintage synths and modern Eurorack gear. Speaking of modern, both DIN-MIDI and USB-MIDI are part of the features and, as befits a genuine Moog, sound quality is amazing, the knobs and buttons offer a trusty feel and you get the characteristic wooden side panels.

Moog Subsequent 25 Paraphonic Analogue Synthesizer

Wrote the following about Moog Subsequent 25 Paraphonic Analogue Synthesizer
