The Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Lab 2 is a superb synth for seasoned sound designers. This super-comprehensive and highly experimental bit of kit also exudes vintage vibes, from the wooden side panels to the coloured knobs. Loaded with two pretty extensive oscillators with wave-shaping capabilities, an LFO, a host of effects and even a relatively large touch-strip and potent CV sequencer, this synthesizer can offer seriously compelling results.

The Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Lab 2: Who's It For?

Since it's aimed at more experimental and more experienced users, the Modular Voltage Lab 2 isn't made for making synthetic trumpets (even though you could if you wanted to). This impressive synth is more for discovering unknown soundscapes and, as such, comes fitted with a small army of buttons and knobs. Thankfully, once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite intuitive and shows that Pittsburgh has put a lot of thought into the built-in functions and the control lay-out.
