This Korg microKORG XL+ synthesizer once again proves that good things can come in small packages. This miniature synth is certainly worthy of the additional plus. Compared to the regular microKORG XL, it offers a healthy dose of extra sounds, while the vocoder function enables you to add surprising effects to your productions. The accurate controls and the easily accessible menu structure ensure that you can always find the right sound with little effort.

microKORG XL+: Powerful Sound Engine

Part of the power of the microKORG XL+ is owed to its Multiple Modeling Technology engine, which uses traditional waveforms with a total of seven algorithms. Korg has also equipped the synth with two multi-mode filters, an elaborate arpeggiator and a nice collection of adjustable parameters. With a little help from the user-friendly operating structure, you're able to come up with the exact sounds you need!

Vocoder on Board

The Korg microKorg XL+ features a built-in vocoder, which makes your voice sound like never before. By adding a gooseneck microphone (not included), the synthesizer accurately registers your vocals and subsequently processes them, creating outrageous effects. Wrote the following about Korg microKORG XL+ Synthesizer

Prima synthesizer(tje). Zeker handig "voor erbij". Eenvoudige bediening en een echt MicroKorg geluid. De MicroKorg XL+ heeft duidelijk minder functies dan Novation Ultranova (welke tegenwoordig in dezelfde prijsklasse valt). Met de XL+ versie heeft Korg een aantal samples toegevoegd die erg lijken op geluiden die je ook op de Mellotron aantreft. Wat dat betreft is het een echte "alleskunner" (maar dan wel van alles een beetje). Vandaar 4 sterren.

Het voordeel van digitale synthesizers zoals de MicroKorg XL+ is dat deze volledig stereo is. Hierdoor creëer je al snel een mooi stereo landschap. Zeker wanneer je naast deze digitale synthesizer ook enkele analoge (veelal mono) synthesizers gebruikt.

Alternatieven voor de MicroKorg XL+ zijn (zoals eerder vermeld) de Novation Ultranova (met normale toetsen) en de Waldorf Blofeld (de desktop versie valt ook binnen de prijsklasse van de MicroKorg XL+). Deze laaste is wat lastiger te bedienen, maar wel volledig multitimbraal. De typische MicroKorg XL+ samples moet je dan wel missen.

TIP: hoewel bij de MicroKorg XL+ niet per se noodzakelijk, is het misschien de moeite waard om een effectpedaal met reverb (bijv. de Behringer FR-600) te gebruiken. Dan creëer je net even wat meer diepte en dat komt zeker bij de pads, maar ook bij de arpeggio's goed van pas.

Leuk speeltje! Gebruiksvriendelijk en toffe sounds in verschillende stijlen. Ik ben alleen niet helemaal weg van de vocoder-presets. Een ander nadeel is dat er geen lege programs zijn voor je eigen sounds. Als je dus iets wil opslaan, moet dit over een bestaande preset heen. Formaat en gewicht is ideaal!

Supersnelle levering. Fijne synth: overzichtelijk, mooie klanken, vocoder.... Helemaal leuk. Wel heeele kleine toetsjes: die wennen echter wonderlijk snel. Een aanrader.
