General

The SOMA Pulsar-23 is a potent monster of a drum machine. 100% hands-on and rammed with a mountain of sonic tweaking controls, this machine doesn't do acoustic drums but pure synth-based beats. Like a sound-designer's dream, the Pulsar can not only help weave stonking EDM-grade drum grooves but the more alien landscapes that lie beneath, whether you're producing electronica, hiphop or even soundtracking a film. For that little bit extra, this model even features a built-in delay for bringing the atmosphere and the master has been fitted out with a distortion effect so you can bring the aggression.

The SOMA Pulsar-23: Creative Beats

You get four tracks: kick, bass/percussion, snare and hi-hat. Each track has its own unique set of parameters and, using the right parameters you can do things like transform the bass channel into a percussion channel and back again. Anyone versed in the alchemy that is sound-design will already recognise a couple of the control elements, but if you don't, you'll find plenty of study material online. Play with the Pulsar for long enough and it'll reward you with thick and tasty sounds that are endlessly tweakable, and all of that immense potential is built into a solid unit that's designed to last the decades.
