The Waldorf Rocket is an attractively priced analogue synthesizer module, designed by none other than Axel Hartmann, an award-winning synthesis expert. Spend some time with the Rocket and you’ll soon notice that the powerful sound of this synth cuts through any mix. That’s right, this rugged Rocket’s got attitude.
Ready? Launch!
Don’t be fooled by its moderate control panel - with only ten knobs and eight switches, this Waldorf synth module can do more than you’d expect at first glance. Although it’s essentially monophonic, the Rocket allows you to create a powerful unison sawtooth with up to eight oscillators. Under certain conditions, chords are also an option, lending a semi-polyphonic quality to the synth. The Rocket features a multimode filter with keytrack and resonance, and there’s even a booster that adds warmth to your signal after the filter. True synth freaks will know what to do with that! An LFO and an arpeggiator are also at your disposal. Of course a rocket wouldn’t be of any use without a launch option. The Waldorf Rocket’s launch button produces a tone for you - ideal for pre-listening if you don’t have a keyboard at hand.
Who benefits from the Waldorf Rocket?
If you have any experience with sound synthesis, this synth module offers plenty to keep you occupied for some time. However, as it excels at generating extreme, direct sounds, the Rocket is likely to be particularly popular among DJs and electro musicians. Real fans might even consider combining a number of Rockets in their (live) setup - the price is certainly no objection. An analogue synthesizer with such a range of parameters is definitely a deal worth considering!

Klein - simpel - vette klanken en veel plezier ervan. Tipje voor de beatstep gebruikers: Je dient de beatstep op Chan - 1 te zetten en dan synchroniseert hij super. Tuurlijk weer superservice van Bax!

Super easy one purpose module basse and leads !
Le rocket est un module simple et direct, on branche à un controleur midi (le keystep d'arturia lui va à ravir) et on laisse aller direct son inspiration ! C'est simple et efficace.
On tourne deux trois potard et on sort tout de suite quelque chose d'exploitable de la basse aux leads sans problème !
Ca sonne super, pour moi il y a un grain assez vintage entre basse agressive, acid sans problème aux leads aériens.
Le filtre analo est très bon on n'a pas l'impression d'avoir un son numérique.
Le mode 8 voice en paraphonie est assez cool bien que limité pour sortir des bons petits dub techno chords ou un petit pads simple.
Le LFO lui aussi limité reste bien ainsi que le mode arpégio qui avec le glide permet de faire pas mal de cool sons. Dommage que l'on ne puisse pas utiliser le LFO et l'arpégio en même temps.
Le petit drive fait la job aussi, moins sur le mode para-phonique je trouve, mais quand on envois pas mal de résonance sur une séquence acid ça réagi bien.
L'enveloppe est un peux trop limité aussi mais sur des séquences simple c'est suffisant.
Et surtout pas de réglage de volume global !!! En studio c'est moins grave mais c'est chiant en live.
Bref malgré ses limitations sus-nommées j'adore ce petit synthé qui est un super module de base inspirant pour commencer un morceau, une simple machine avec un super son, très bon rapport qualité prix à mon sens !

This Rocket brings (for me) quite a few surprises. Wide range of synthesis compared with what the panel would suggest.
Major drawback, audio output is mono. I use a splitter to port it to stereo channel.
I use an Arturia Keystep, and combined with the Rocket Arp it creates very nice bass loops.
The MIDI OUT seems to be useless. I connected it to an old DR-3 drummer MIDI channel 1, but no avail. The MIDI set button hole at the rear doesn't set the OUT I guess. The default MIDI channel number is a mystery. The manual says nothing. Bummer.
For the sound I definitely recommend this machine. My 5 stars given.

Op het oog simpele, maar uitgebreide synth module. Gaat Van bliepjes en piepjes tot 303 achtige basslines en John Carpenter-esque swells (met hulp van een beetje reverb).
Sluit er een sequencer op aan en zet hem in de Arp stand en je kan hele aparte en zeer ritmische basslijntjes te voorschijn toveren.
De module heeft - net zoals de Streichfett - zijn sonische beperkingen, maar het is zeker geen one trick pony.
nadelen: ruis op de headphone uitgang, geen attack knop

De Waldorf Rocket is een Bijzondere synthesizer, niet alleen vanwege de fijne sounds die je er mee kunt produceren, maar zeker ook door de vele functies die in dit apparaat te vinden zijn. De synth heeft maar negen draaiknoppen en acht schakelaars, maar wanneer je je bedenkt dat iedere draaiknop eigenlijk twee functies heeft, staat dit het maken van vette sounds zeker niet in de weg! De bediening is overzichtelijk, de Wave en Tune knoppen krijgen bij iedere golfvorm hun eigen functies, iets waar je snel aan gewend raakt. Ook is het mogelijk akkoorden te spelen, ook al is het eigenlijk een monophone synthesizer. Zet de oscilator op saw en draai de wave en tune knoppen allebei helemaal naar rechts. Ook kun je het filter als oscilator gebruiken en op die manier bijv. kicks en toms maken. Daarnaast is er een iOs app beschikbaar (Rocket control) die het mogelijk maakt om presets te bewaren en de iPad kan dan eventueel ook als toetsenbord gebruikt worden. Natuurlijk werkt dat via usb of midi wel een stuk makkelijker. De Rocket heeft alleen volumeregeling voor de headphone en niet voor de main out,. Ook heeft de synth geen attack parameter, wat een klein minpuntje zou kunnen zijn. Al met al dus een prima synthesizer met een eigen karakter, die je voor deze prijs eigenlijk niet kunt laten liggen! Ik ben in ieder geval een erg tevreden gebruiker!

Simpel opgezette synth module. Digitale "oscilator" met analoog filter. Goed over nagedacht. Weinig knopppen, maar wel de juiste. Alleen attack knop en output knop mis ik. Het filter klinkt heerlijk van subtiel tot rauw. Resonance gaat tot zelf oscilatie. Output is ruim voldoende (harder dan m'n 303). Geen patches, gewoon lekker ouderwets knoppen draaien. Grote degelijke knoppen. Stevig robuust plastic, dus licht apparaatje. Mooie waldorf synth met eigen karakter dat uitstekend past bij analoge set-up. Heeft geen interne sequencer, dus zal aangestuuurd moeten worden met sequencer (Sonar/Cubase/Logic/Ableton/etc...). Zit geen papieren handleiding bij, maar is ook niet nodig. Midi-kabel erin en gaan met die banaan. Power via USB aansluiting, 220v naar USB adapter mee geleverd. Ook Filter-CV ingang (VCF), dus dit geeft extra opties, zeker in combinatie met modulaire synths of andere synths met CV (zoals Dark Energy).
Output via 1x6,35mm jack.
Headphone out via 3,5mm jack met volume regeling.
Kort samengevat: Makkelijk, licht, vet analoog geluid, iets beperkt in mogelijkheden.
Ik ben aangenaam verrast door en zeer tevreden over deze synth.
