While the 'spalted' effect is actually caused by a specific fungus that can effect the grain of certain wood, it's well loved by instrument builders, and you can immediately see why. The natural intricacy of this wood is mesmerising and undeniably unique. Here, the Kala KA-MG-C concert ukulele has been built almost entirely from spalted mango to give it a richly complex finish in terms of both look and tone. Fitted with a mahogany neck, a laurel fretboard and finished with thoughtful details like the black binding and matching machine heads, this ukulele packs some presence. It also comes pre-loaded with a set of D’Addario Clear Nylon strings, and complete with a UB-C gig bag with 12mm thick padding and fitted adjustable shoulder straps.
