General

Deze RGL5EB-CE is een guitarlele uit de Timber Series van Ortega, met een ebbenhouten body en een mahonie hals met walnoot toets. Deze kleine gitaar heeft het formaat van een bariton ukelele, maar heeft zes nylon snaren en wordt bespeeld als een gitaar. De snaren worden wel iets hoger gestemd dan de standaard tuning, namelijk in A-D-G-C-E-A. Guitarleles zijn perfect voor gitaristen die op zoek zijn naar die typische, vinnige ukelele sound zonder over te stappen op vier snaren. Ook als reisgitaar of gewoon als uitbreiding van je assortiment is dit instrument uitermate geschikt.

Grote broer

Net als de RGL5EB - zijn kleine broertje zeg maar - is deze guitarlele mooi afgewerkt met ABS bindingen, Ortega gold plated stemmechanieken en een open pore finish, zodat het donkere hout heel natuurlijk aanvoelt en er ook zo uitziet. Maar er zijn natuurlijk ook verschillen, zo beschikt grote broer RGL5EB-CE over een MagusUke preamp met ingebouwde tuner, zodat je zijn warme klank makkelijk kan versterken, volume en toon zijn rechstreeks op het instrument regelbaar. Een cutaway verhoogt het speelcomfort en maakt ook hoge tonen bereikbaar.

I bought these strings for my Cordoba Mini guitar that has a 510mm scale length (just over 20 inches) and tunes to A just like a classical guitar with a capo on the 5th fret (NOTE: IT IS NOT the Mini II that has a longer scale length and tunes to standard E). It was a previously owned one from a music store and came strung with new ball-end full scale classical guitar strings that sounded muddy and dead. These Aquila 96C Guilele/Guitarlele strings are recommended for A-tuned instruments with a shorter scale length of 17 inches (432mm) which is normal for a Guilele, but I thought i would test them anyway. Usually the same strings will feel tighter on a longer scale length than on a shorter scale length instrument and 78mm (3 inches) is quite a difference. I am very pleased with the sound. The strings feel and sound more alive and the mini guitar rings better. It sounds more snappy and a bit more like a guilele than a scaled down classical guitar, and that is what I wanted.

would have given five stars but, the nut that holds the bolt to lock the height bar is not fixed in but only held by a rubber gasket in the inside of the bar. When I unscrewed the bolt fully the nut fell out. Very tricky trying to replace it. How ever overall I'm pleased with the stand and would buy again.

Redelijke standaard voor deze lage prijs.

Het was een beetje prutsen en kracht zetten om met name de verstelbare stang voor de hals er goed in te krijgen. Dat had te maken met wat bramen aan de plastic flens bij de moer van de stelschroef. Nadat deze weggevijld waren zat de stang er zo in en kon ik deze goed verstellen en vastzetten.

De pen aan de U-vormige steun waar de body van m'n Uke op komt te rusten bleek juist niet helemaal in de buis aan de standaard gestoken te moeten worden, want dan kan hij vrij ronddraaien. Laat je hem zo'n twee centimeter uit steken dan blijft-ie mooi horizontaal (en klikt-ie met z'n nokje soort van goed in de uitsparing van de plastic flens). Het zou beter geweest zijn als die flens aan het einde dicht was, zodat je hem niet kan doordrukken.

In het algemeen laat de pasvorm van de plastic doppen en flenzen een beetje te wensen over, ze zitten vrij losjes in de buizen. Is wel op te lossen met wat creatief knutselwerk, maar daar ben ik nog niet aan toegekomen.

Kortom: Voor thuis in je studio of op je slaapkamer (eenmalig in elkaar zetten) een prima standaard, maar als je het ding regelmatig in en uit elkaar moet halen voor je gigs ben ik bang dat de ergernis na verloop van tijd gaat toenemen...
