General

After the success of the K series, QSC launched the KW series as the next evolutionary step in wooden-cabinet speakers. The engineers have managed to retain all of the groundbreaking properties of the K Series but reduced the cabinets in size and made them lighter.

The KW153 is an active 3-way speaker with a 15-inch woofer, a 1.75-inch compression driver and a 6.5-inch midrange speaker. They are housed in a cabinet made of 15mm-thick birch plywood which has a black textured painted finish. The inside of the speaker is protected by a smart-looking black powder-coated steel grille.

Both the woofers and the driver are powered by a class D amplifier that uses 500 Watts for the low tones and another 500 Watts for the mid and high tones for 1000 Watts of power in all. The KW153 delivers a maximum SPL of 134 dB at 1 metre. At -10 dB, it has frequency range of between 37Hz and 20 kHz.
