General

Like a bass-based Swiss Army knife, the Zoom B2 Four multi-effect unit wraps up a range of different preamps, amplifier emulations and effects with Zoom's own Multi-Layer IR technology to result in near-endlessly variable bass sound. Basically, everything you could ever need has been stacked into one neat pedal, including a bass amplifier, so whether you're on stage or working in the studio or rehearsal room, you can jack directly into the PA system and select one of the three valve-style or three transistor-style DI amp emulations to complete your virtual setup.

The Zoom B2 Four: Classic, High-Grace Bass Sound

As well as space for 300 user patches, this Zoom offering already comes loaded with no-less-than 250 factory presets so bassists can immediately get to work with a near-countless selection of high-quality profiles that span everything from the contemporary to classic fifties-flavoured bass sound. By teaming up one of the Sun CB or Monotone amp models with one of the five extremely diverse preamps, you can basically create your own custom rig before colouring in the result through a range of inspiring effects, including octavers and synths. Up to five effects can be grouped and activated at the same time, and via the set of four rotary encoders, your effect parameters can be bent and moulded into perfect shape.

I had a Zoom B3 before so found the the user interface intuitive and was able to realise the full potential within an hour with a minimum of reference to any instructions. I wish Zoom had kept the battery (4 x AA) backup but, other than that, it's great - versatile, superb sounds and excellent spec, including the all important built in DI, mono/stereo and headphone outputs. The ergonomics are also excellent.

Good value for money. Hoop effecten, flexibel, programmeerbaar, veel bruikbare ritmes, looper, DI, tuner, redelijk eenvoudig te bedienen, stevig, koptelefoonuitgang, USB-uitgang. Weinig te wensen meer, toch? Ben er echt heel tevreden mee.
Desalniettemin een paar aandachtspuntjes, ter info, niet om 'm af te schieten.
(1) Ik vind het wat jammer dat de rhythmbox (en de Looper) als effect gekozen moet worden, dus voor elk settings-programma apart. Heeft voor- en nadelen. Voordeel is dat je bijvoorbeeld diverse programma's kunt instellen met elk een eigen ritme/tempo, waardoor bijvoorbeeld je settings voor funk (met funkritme) anders zijn dan rock (met een rockritme). Dit kost je nu dan wel een effect-plaats in je programma. Ikzelf had liever 1 centrale rhythmfunctie gehad die voor alle programma's geldt. Bij een vorige versie van de Zoom was dat namelijk zo, en dat beviel me wat beter.
(2) De display toont slechts 3 van de 5 effectposities tegelijk. Het scrollen hebben ze mooi geregeld, alle lof. Maar waarom niet een iets grotere display en alle vijf zichtbaar? Geen probleem verder. Wel beetje opletten welke effecten in beeld zijn.
(3) De symbolen en teksten op de display zien er mooi uit, maar van een afstand (staand) niet makkelijk te onderscheiden. Dus gemaakt om de programma's vooraf te maken. De op zich mooie functie om on the fly binnen een programma bepaalde effecten aan/uit te zetten wordt hierdoor een beetje tricky. Effe wennen en opletten. Valt mee te leven.
(4) De USB-driver gaf bij mij wat problemen. Op mijn beide PC's ging de latency na installatie fors omhoog, naar 150ms of zo, en niet meer goed te krijgen. Misschien doe ik iets verkeerd, maar dit vind ik wel een irritant feitje. Opnemen ermee wordt een stuk lastiger zo.

Sinds een paar dagen in mijn bezit. Als bassist in basis niet veel pedalen nodig, maar soms ben je opzoek naar een effect die je toch uit een pedaal moet halen. Uiteindelijk op de Zoom B2 Four uitgekomen. Eigenlijk alle (en meer) effecten die ik de komende tijd verwacht nodig te hebben. Een uitgebreider apparaat dan ook niet nodig. Daarnaast ook te gebruiken als DI zodat je direct over een PA kan spelen zonder versterker. Door de verschillende DI mogelijkheden kan je de kleur van je output naar wens aanpassen. Verder mogelijkheid om een koptelefoon aan te sluiten zodat je geluidloos kan oefenen. Intuïtieve bediening wat je al snel leert door de programma's heen te scrollen en nieuwe patches aan te maken en af te stellen. De effecten zijn zeer goed, ook over een versterker of PA. Stemmen kan ook op het apparaat, dus eigenlijk weinig meer om mee te nemen, naast mijn basgitaar.

Een mooi compleet multi effect pedaal voor een relatief lage prijs. Een aanrader voor de bassist die meer wilt dan alleen een Clean geluid, maar niet een heel pedalboard wil aanschaffen. Daardoor gunstig in prijs en mee te nemen bagage.
