General

While the tight dimensions mean that this edition of the Novation Launchkey MK4 can easily slot into a backpack and support on-the-fly writing and producting, that doesn't mean that you have to fight with an awkward set of mini-keys. This shrunk-down multi-tool comes loaded with thirty-seven full-sized keys, giving your fingers plenty of playing room and giving you an extra octave of note-range when compared to the twenty-five key edition. On top of that, you get all of the essential controls - everything you need to keep working no matter where you are.

The Fourth Generation Novation Launchkey

The Novation Launchkey MK4 doesn't just come with a bank of pads to support clip triggering in performance-based software like Ableton Live, but gives you a bank of sixteen pads, all backed up by polyphonic aftertouch for even bigger and even more dynamic expression. This time around, you also get a fully up-to date and razor-sharp OLED screen, which displays your encoder values in real-time and can also take you through the scales and chords of a specific key, helping out those writers and producers with a little less playing experience. The on-board arpeggiator is another nice perk, giving you a playground for trying out ideas and discovering things that you might never have come up with otherwise. And, last but not least, there's the bulging software package that comes included as standard: Ableton Live Lite plus a few virtual instrument packs to get you up and running straight away.

Eenvoudig maar mooi vormgegeven (makkelijk hanteerbaar), solide in elkaar gezet.

Ik had hiervoor zelf een mini (MiniLab) en had eigenlijk iets dergelijks verwacht met meer knoppen - in werkelijkheid kreeg ik iets dat vol zit met allerlei handige en overlappende functies als autochord, arpeggio, etc. Daarbij wordt handig gebruik gemaakt van de pads, zowel functioneel als visueel.

Daarnaast is de compatibiliteit met diverse DAW's gewoon heel goed (met FL kon ik hem out of box direct gebruiken) en geeft de meegeleverde software de keuze om allerlei functies te wijzigen en in verschillende profielen op te slaan.

De bijgeleverde softsynths e.d. zijn uiteraard entry level spul waar je meer modules voor kunt krijgen tegen betaling, maar mooi meegenomen en ook prima spul van goede kwaliteit.

Op zich niets revolutionairs, maar wel iets dat gewoon goed is uitgedacht en redelijk wat diepte herbergt qua functionaliteit. En dat is zeker niet altijd de norm. Ik kan de Launchkey mk 4 van harte aanbevelen. Zeker de beginner zal hier voorlopig meer dan voldoende aan hebben.

Top apparaat!

De 37 toetsen zijn echt een verademing (tov 25) en toch is het een compact toetsenbord. Te samen met de pads en de rotary knobs voegt dit zoveel toe aan je Daw waardoor je je toetsenbord en muis veel minder gebruikt!

Het werkt lekker efficiënt en vanuit Novation worden er ook aardig wat “sample” packs geleverd.
