Evans EQ4 16-inch Bass Drumhead for Converted 16-inch Floor Tom

Finding a good drumhead to fully convert a floor tom into a bass drum can be tough. As such, Meinl have thoughtfully developed the 16 inch EQ4 Clear to fit the thinner tension hoop of a floor tom. Once installed, your converted kick is given the strong attack, excellent sustain and durability of a single-ply 10 mil head as well as the balanced and focussed, punching response ensured by a fitted tone-control ring.

It can be a bit of a mission to find a 16 inch kick drumhead, simply because such small kicks are rare and the smallest heads you can find are usually 18 inchers. 16 inch kicks actually only came about because more and more drummers started to repurpose their floor tom, sticking it on its side to serve as a tight kick. The downside of using a floor tom lies in the tension hoop. Bass drums have a thick, wooden hoop, while floor toms have thin metal hoops. As such, Meinl have thoughtfully developed 16 inch kick drumheads that fit both. This 16 incher is compatible with the thinner tension hoop of a floor tom.
