General

The MXR M81 Bass Preamp is both a studio-grad DI and a preamp in a single compact stomp box. Thanks to its compact design, it takes up less space on your pedal board than its big brother, the M80 Bass DI+. Contrary to the M80, this pedal does not offer a distortion effect. Instead, it focuses on high-end clean bass sounds. Gain full control over the sound of your bass guitar with the MXR M81 Bass Preamp.

Versatile EQ of the MXR M81 Bass Preamp.

Thanks to an adjustable input and output gain, the MXR M81 can be used for both active and passive bass guitars. It has an extremely detailed and articulate 3-band EQ that consists of bass, mid and treble controls. Additionally, you can sweep the mid frequency from 250 Hz to 1 kHz, so you can minutely tweak your sound down to the smallest detail. The MXR M81 Bass Preamp is a straightforward control with the versatility of a parametric EQ.

Adjustable DI output

In addition to a standard 6.3mm jack output, the MXR M81 is equipped with a DI output via XLR, which means you can connect the pedal directly to your bass amplifier while simultaneously sending the signal to a mixer or PA system. Two small buttons allow you to apply ground lift to the DI output, or send it as a pre or post EQ signal.
