General

The smallest sibling of the MAX 110, 112, and 115, the Peavey MAX 158 combo practice amplifier still packs a few of the same sweet functions, but comes at almost half the size. This 1x 8-inch bass combo backs up any rehearsing bassist with a good 20 Watts of power, and since it was completely overhauled before its re-release back in 2013, you're also treated to the sound of Peavey's own Psycho-Acoustics technology, TransTube Boost and the unbeatable perk of an integrated chromatic tuner.

The Peavey MAX 158: Fresh Functions

In true Peavey-style, the control panel is unfussy and user-friendly, providing nothing but an essential master volume control and three band EQ section for tweaking the bass, middle, and treble frequencies in detail. Activate the TransTube circuit, and the natural tone of your bass is stuffed through a perfect simulation of an overdriven valve amplifier, while the new Psycho-Acoustics function adds an extra harmonic octave to the sub-tone, leaving you with a far richer, fuller, and deeper sound, removing the need for extra distortion. On top of that, Peavey's patented DDT technology provides compression and limiting to protect the speaker from clipping.

Built-in Tuner & Extra Inputs

A complete practice partner, this tight bass combo amp has been fitted with an AUX input so you can play through backing-tracks and playlists and jam along to hone your skills. For more privacy, the headphone output cuts out the speaker whenever a set of headphones is plugged in, and the convenient built-in digital tuner has a set of clear LED pitch indicators to guide you as you tune up your bass.

ENGL Doubles the Power of the Master Series

Tuesday 8 March 2016 By Julie Alexander

The first ENGL MetalMaster and RockMaster 20 amplifiers enjoyed great popularity, thought they didn't quite quench guitarists' thirst for even more power. Once the ENGL technician's caught wind of the requests, they were only too happy to comply, and have recently released their response in the form of the 40W MetalMaster and RockMaster. You can get either model as an amp head or a combo.
