The Finnish originators, Darkglass Electronics have somehow managed to cram even more functions into the Microtubes X Ultra than they already squeezed into the X7. As such, the face of the Ultra comes adorned with a seven-band EQ - two steps over the five-band EQ section of the X7 - and impulse responses can be loaded into the Ultra using the fitted USB port and the butter-smooth interface of the Darkglass Suite software. This eased expansion is what makes the Microtubes X Ultra such an insanely extensive preamp/distortion unit, able to display the flexibility of a seasoned ninja. New to this Darkglass conception, is the useful addition of an AUX input for rehearsing with backing tracks, which actually, could even be done by hooking your computer or laptop up to the USB port. Naturally, this can all be done in complete privacy thanks to the fitted headphone output, and as for the rest, you'll find all the same controls as the X7; so you're assured of ultimate dominance over a low-frequency compression that retains your presence in the mix or in isolation, along with a low-pass and high-pass pot for unparalleled frequency tweaking.
