The Shure MX396 is a dual-element boundary microphone from Shure's MicroFlex series. It is a unique and versatile piece of kit for use in conference rooms and meeting rooms, for example. The two elements of the microphone both have coverage from 0 to 180 degrees, meaning you can use different recording patterns, from cardioid to omni-directional. For example, you can station the microphone at the end of the table with 300-degree coverage, in the middle of the table with 360-degree coverage, or in the middle of the table with two people, for example with two times 90-degree coverage.

So the possibilities of recording are diverse, but the other specifications also say enough. Everything has been thought of, such as an individual audio output for each element, a two-colour status indicator (mute on/off), a mute function with programmable switch, and Shure's own advanced CommShield technology. The latter ensures that annoying noises from nearby electrical devices and mobile phones are excluded, so you won't be bothered by them!
