Why would an entry-level cajon offer inferior sound? With the Varios series, Sela proves that it is indeed possible to offer a high-quality cajon at a reasonable price. This particular model, the SE 051 Varios Brown, has a durable 15mm-thick body made of 11 plies of birch. Its frontplate, meanwhile, features a gorgeous brown poplar veneer, which complements the natural finish of the body. Four rubber feet ensure it stays firmly in place on even the smoothest surfaces. While it is indeed an entry-level model, even advanced percussionists will find plenty to like about this excellent instrument.

Varios Brown with adjustable snare wires

The SE 051 is what's called a snare cajon, which means that there is a set of snare wires behind the frontplate, to give it that distinctive crisp sound. What's unusual about this Sela cajon, however, is that the snare wires can be removed through the sound port on the back. You can even alter the snare sound by adding an additional set of snare wires, which is available separately. As such, the Varios Brown is suited for virtually any genre - from traditional Peruvian when you take the snares off, to a flamenco style sound with extra snares on. It's also highly suitable for accompanying acoustic instruments.
