Vandoren Reeds

Vandoren reeds come in various strengths, which are indicated by different numbers, from 1 to 5, in half steps. 1 is the thinnest and has the least strength, but is the easiest to make a tone with although the sound quality is somewhat compromised. 5 is the thickest reed, and as such, is much harder to create a tone with. Once the sound is created, on the other hand, it's a lot fuller and richer. So to sum up, the higher the number of the reed, the harder it is to play, but the fuller it sounds.
