General
The Fender ESC-80 is designed to encourage young guitarists to press on and learn to play guitar. The 3/4-size format makes it ideal for any up-and-coming guitar prodigy between the ages of 7 and 10, while the comfortable neck, bright-sparkly sound and grown-up looks further add to the attractiveness of this beginner guitar.
Construction
The top of the Fender ESC-80 is made of spruce and is responsible for the sparkling sound this instrument delivers. The sides and back are made of mahogany and, together with the 18-fret neck, throw warm harmonics on top of the rich foundation sound. The ESC-80 is classically finished with a tight, black binding around the body and an elegant rosette circling the sound hole.
Truss Rod
Something not often seen in a 3/4-size starter guitar, is a truss rod. A luthier can make careful adjustments to this metal rod to get the intonation of the instrument just right because after all, wood is a product of nature and will respond to moisture, humidity and temperature changes. Not to mention that guitars without a truss rod can't be intonated properly once the neck becomes warped! Luckily, this Fender doesn't have that problem and will continue to sound and play solidly, even after the original student has long outgrown the 3/4-size.
