What that comes down to can be heard in his signature stompbox from JHS Pedals: the Paul Gilbert PG-14 Distortion. The beating heart of this pedal is a FET-based distortion engine and as such, it has has all the feel of a powerful tube amp. Even at relatively low volume, your sound gets infused with the rich dynamics this American-made pedal is able to add, even more because of the built-in active mid-frequency preamp. Using the tone, volume, drive, mid and push controls, that same sound then can be carefully perfected while the durable metal housing keeps the internal components safe from overexcited use and the rigours of any touring musician's life.
