General
In 2013, Pearl reintroduced the Export series of drum kits and 2014 finally sees the return of the Export Lacquer series. This new shell set comes in a Standard Rock configuration, with a 22 x 18-inch bass drum, 12 x 8 and 13 x 9-inch toms, 16 x 16-inch floor tom and a 14 x 5.5-inch snare drum with a similar construction as the toms. Pearl also included a sturdy set of hardware: the Pearl Hardware Pack 830. Plus, you get the Opti-Loc tom mounting system, which is very stable and allows the toms to resonate freely. Cymbals are not included with this product, but with the hundreds of available crashes, rides, hi-hats and other cymbals, you should have no problem finding the ones that suit your taste.
Features of the Pearl EXL725/C246
The 7.5mm thick shells are made of a 6-ply mix of poplar and Asian mahogany. This combination offers a deep and rich sound that is further supported by the 45-degree bearing edges and the triple-flanged hoops. Overall this is a very high-quality product (which is true for the Export series in general), it has features that you would only expect to find on a much more expensive drum kit. Nonetheless it is very affordable, ideal for beginners that want a high-end product on a starter budget - and let's face it, who doesn't want that?
