Yamaha's enhanced Recording Custom shell sets have answered the prayers of drummers around the world, and in a few aspects, they have even surpassed their legendary predecessor, the YD9000R. Instead of Japanese birch, the shells are made of American birch, which grows slower. This kit also features large, weighted lugs for enhanced resonance.

The sound of this set has also been improved in the bearing edge, which is at a 30-degree angle. Combined with the 2.3mm Dyna Hoops, this ensures stable tuning and gives the shells a warm, clear tone. If you're used to playing a maple kit, you'll notice these birch shells are slightly lower in pitch. All the hardware on this set is chrome-plated.

Configuration

This shell set consists of a bass drum, two toms and a floor tom. The pictured hardware, snare drum and cymbals are not included. A tom holder, however is included. The bass drum is 18 inches in diameter and 14 inches deep while the toms measure 10 x 7 and 12 x 8 inches and the floor tom is 14 x 13 inches. A configuration like this is ideal for lighter music styles like jazz, Latin and ethnic music, but it's just as suitable for pop or rock. Its compact size makes it easy to transport and set up in areas where space is limited.
