General
The Arturia SparkLE drum machine is a more compact version of its precursor, the Arturia SPARK drum machine. This SparkLE is an efficient controller for the Arturia Spark Engine. The sounds originate in the Arturia software, the vibe and the inspiration are clearly found in the controller, which just feels a lot more spontaneous than your PC keyboard and mouse. The SparkLE is perfectly suited to this heyday for new innovative controllers (that are nevertheless based on the classic TR style). Anyone who is proficient with the SparkLE can introduce patterns unbelievably quickly, thanks to the fluid response of this controller.
The Hardware
The illuminated pads with which you shape your patterns are touch and pressure-sensitive. In order to tweak your music at lightning speeds, this controller is equipped with handy buttons, rotary knobs and even an XY pad. It still remains a very compact device, which is easy to transport even in combination with the laptop which carries your Arturia software.
The Software
The Spark Engine is fairly extensive with three sound engines to generate sound. Firstly, there is TAE synthesis with which you can create analogue-sounding drums. With the Physical Modelling engine you can adjust the physical details of drums. This is great fun and allows you to experiment! The sample player covers all the other functions. You are, of course, supplied with a great deal of sounds right off the bat. These include vintage machines like the 808, 909 and the LinnDrum. Acoustic sounds are also represented in great numbers and these suit various styles. For contemporary genres like House, Dubstep, RnB and Techno, an extensive library of sounds is provided.

Het geluid is erg goed en de controler is een degelijk product.
Natuurlijk heeft hij door zn compacte afmetingen minder knoppen dan (bijv) de Spark CDM, maar hij past daardoor perfect in mn laptoptas.
De software is uitgebreid en vooral de mogelijkheid om eigen samples (tot 6 lagen voor 1 instrument, aangestuurd door aanslaggevoeligheid!) geeft enorm veel mogelijkheden.
Het nadeel dat je een laptop / pc nodig hebt weegt voor mij niet op tegen de lage prijs en uitgebreide mogelijkheden.
Kortom: een top product waar ik nog veel plezier aan ga beleven.

De Arturia SparkLE voldoet aan mijn wensen, alles wat ik nodig had (zie boven) kan ermee EN een stuk goedkoper dan de Ableton Push hardware software combinatie.
De hardware:
Het is een stevig apparaat, robuust. Ik verwacht dat het lang zal meegaan, zowel fysiek als creatief gezien. Alle pads zijn aanslag gevoelig en voelen prettig aan. Genoeg pads en controllers om te kunnen componeren en performen.
De software:
Sinds juli '14 wordt de Spark 2 software meegeleverd (los alleen al rond de 200 Euro), bijzonder uitgebreide en intuïtief te gebruiken software. De SparkLE Spark 2 set integreert probleemloos met Logic Pro X; controller wordt out of the box herkent, overige functies integreren moeiteloos. Al kun je de meeste functies vanaf de SparkLE bedienen, het blijft af en toe nodig om naar het scherm te kijken; samples laden, geluiden configureren. Gelukkig is deze tijd minimaal, je kunt je richten op het muziek maken. maak je gebruik van een van de vele voor geconfigureerde projecten en/of geluiden dan hoef je helemaal niet naar je scherm te kijken.
Je kunt melodieën inspelen m.b.v.de "Tune" functie of bijvoorbeeld door de pitch te veranderen m.b.v. de draai knoppen. Je kunt dit doen op basis van samples, dus verwacht geen symfonieën die je met een keyboard zou inspelen.
De SparkLE kun je gebruiken als MIDI instrument buiten de Spark 2 software. Configureren is dan geen plug and play, Ultrabeat geluiden zijn bijv niet standaard gemapped. Gelukkig maakt de bijgeleverde Midi editor Midi veel goed. Top product!
