Toms are usually placed on the bass drum, suspended from a solid cymbal stand or drum rack, or mounted on a tom stand. For the first two situations you should use a proper tom holder. You'll need a fixing point for holding the tom,and you'll find all the materials for that in this category. These mounts come in all shapes and sizes; try to limit the contact with the shell as much as possible in order to maintain optimal resonance.
