Mick Thomson is no stranger to the metal scene. Slipknot fans have already been able to get acquainted with the Ibanez MTM20-WH signature model. This, however, is the MTM1, finished in black, featuring Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups. These pickups add further definition to the already focused lows, and they're one part in explaining the difference in price between this guitar and the MTM20. Besides the new pickups, the neck-through construction has been reinforced with KTS titanium. You'll also find Mick Thomson's signature on the electronics cover, serving as his own seal of approval. The Ibanez MTM1 comes with a .011 string set and tuned to drop C#.

The five-piece maple/walnut neck runs through the entire mahogany body, and has been reinforced with KTS titanium. This helps create the focused lows that are so important to Slipknot's genre. The neck-through construction also has a few other advantages over a traditional bolted-on neck. For instance, due to the absence of a heel it's much easier to reach the highest frets, and this construction also allows for enhanced sustain and a more defined, richer tone. Additionally, the active Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups add further definition to the guitar's lows. Just like the MTM20, the MTM1's 24-fret rosewood fretboard features Thomson's typical 'seven' inlay. Finally, the fixed FX Edge III bridge is based on Ibanez's patented Low-Pro and Edge III Tremolo systems.
