General
Adrian Smith from the legendary NWOBHM band Iron Maiden has many guitars, but his San Dimas Dinky is a favourite. This affordable, transparent green Jackson Adrian Smith Signature SDXQ has a beautiful top made of quilted maple. Iron Maiden's live shows are very energetic which is why Adrian has made sure his signature guitar is relatively lightweight. That's why Jackson have used basswood for the body. For excellent tuning stability even in the face of wild tremolo effects, Jackson have equipped this signature SDXQ with a Floyd Rose Special 2-point Tremolo and a locking string nut.
Adrian Smith Signature SDXQ: Can I Play With Madness
The 2-piece maple neck is perfect for heavier playing styles and, at the special request of the legendary heavy metal guitarist, it has his favourite profile as well as a licenced Fender Stratocaster headstock with a black Jackson logo! The maple fretboard has a 12 - 16-inch compound radius that makes it easier to play chords lower down the neck and flattens out higher up to make soloing easier too. The neck has a satin-gloss finish and is ultra-stable thanks to its graphite reinforcement. It's bolted on to the San Dimas' body. All in all, it's safe to say this Jackson SDXQ solid-body is ready to rock!
Based on his 1986 Superstrat
The wood types used in this guitar's construction give it a solid, full, well-defined sound for playing classics like 'Run To The Hills' and 'The Trooper'. When comes to pickups, Adrian prefers an HSS configuration, which is why you'll find a high-output humbucker at the bridge with single-coils in the mid and neck positions. There's a 5-way pickup switch and potentiometer for volume and tone so that you can customise your sound. Essentially, this model is very similar to Adrian's 1986 Superstrat, but it's much more affordable.
