RS502 Billet Green: simply stunning
This Revstar guitar is based on Japanese minimalism. In other words, the RS502 has everything you need and nothing in excess. The P-90 alnico single-coil pickups are especially remarkable, as they have been extra-wound to deliver a warm character that still responds well to the dynamics of your playing. A mahogany body boasts a rich colourful sound, and a maple top provides that extra bit of clarity. Thanks to an adjustable wrap-around bridge, intonation and tuning stability won't be a problem.

Every detail of the Revstar series has been crafted with care and attention so that each individual model stands out in its own unique way. To do this, Yamaha gathered inspiration from the vintage motorbikes seen on the streets of London and Tokyo. From curvy lines and newly-designed body shapes to characteristic finishes, these electric guitars are the result of years of expert craftsmanship. De gitaar kwam met een erg hol staande hals, action was rond de 5 mm bij de 12e fret en de trussrod moest zeker 4 slagen aangedraaid worden om op een normale action te komen (ong 2 a 2,5 mm). Het lijkt of de binding bij de 8e fret een barstje heeft maar dat is aan beide kanten, zou kunnen dat deze er in twee delen is opgezet, vreemd maar met spelen heb je er geen last van.
Hardware ziet er goed uit en werkt ook goed, de gitaar is redelijk stemvast, een setje locking tuners zou dit nog beter maken denk ik.
Geluid is goed, ondanks de Gibson mensuur klinkt het hals-element (met dry-switch ingeschakeld) behoorlijk strat achtig, de tussenstand en de brug pickup zijn vrij fel en komen erg in de buurt van een telecaster. Er zit wel een lichte brom in maar ik heb dat veel erger gehoord bij andere p90 elementen, tussenstandje is stil. De hoogte van beide elementen heb ik een stuk lager gezet waardoor het geluid minder hard maar wel helderder werd, bij bluesy crunch sounds werkt dit erg goed.
Ik heb hem nu een aantal keer live gebruikt de afgelopen weken en ben er blij mee!
Yamaha zou eigenlijk nog een thinline versie van deze gitaar moeten maken, nog meer helderheid en wat minder gewicht.

Lang verhaal kort. De gitaar is tot op de millimeter mooi afgewerkt. Hij heeft (vind ik dan) geweldige looks en speelt fantastisch. Gisteren voor het eerst live gebruikt....wat een power en definitie in het geluid.
Wat mij betreft een absoluut schot in de roos. Nu sparen voor de 620 serie :-)
