With the YEV-104, Yamaha introduce us to a new breed of violin. Its form is evidently inspired by the natural beauty of wood and the gliding lines of an infinity-loop to result in a shape that echoes an acoustic guitar as well as a traditional violin. This incredibly comfortable and light instrument comes with a sound that only matches its stunning looks and almost aches to be played.

The YEV-104: Pure Innovation

Since wood forms the starting point for this electric violin, the YEV-104 is made using six different wood species. The solid central parts of the body are formed by a combination of spruce, mahogany and maple. This five-layer construction ensures outstanding response while the surrounding oiled walnut frame and rosewood fingerboard only aid the voicing. As expected with a violin of this calibre, the chin-rest and tuning pegs are made from ebony.

Sound and Tuning Stability

Less is most definitely more and as such, the electronics have been keep simple. A standard mono jack output is fitted to amplify the YEV-104 while the same kind of piëzo found in Yamaha's professional silent violin is fitted in the bridge and delivers a warm and organic feeling sound. This warmth is supported by the innovative synthetic core of the installed D’Addario Zyex strings which offer the ultimate stability due to their resistance to any fluctuations in temperature and moisture.
