Sigma Guitars has a big name to uphold, namely Martin Guitars. With the GMC-STE, the former daughter company definitely delivers. This electro-acoustic guitar combines a high-quality finish with high-quality wood and hardware, including a solid spruce soundboard and a Fishman Isys+ preamp.

The Build of the GMC-STE

Sigma Guitars still use the same body types as Martin, so the GMC-STE has what's known as a Grand OM 14 Fret body where the body and neck join at the 14th fret. This, in combination with the cutaway, grants full access to all twenty frets, while the solid Sitka spruce soundboard and mahogany back and sides combine to give rise to sparkling steel-string sound with just enough warmth. Quality hardware, such as a real bone nut and saddle as well as a Fishman Isys+ preamp, complete the build.

Sigma Guitars

In the 1970s, Martin Guitars launched a series of attractively-priced models under the name Sigma Guitars in order to compete with the growing number of cheaper models being produced in the Far East. Unfortunately, they stopped producing them in 2007 but a German company breathed new life into the name in 2011. With Martin Guitars' blessing, these models are now made in China. They're subject to strict quality controls and everything from the way they're made to the design of the headstock do the original models justice. In short, these acoustic guitars offer the same excellent value for money as the original models did. In the USA, these models are distributed by Martin under the name Kindred Guitars because they no longer hold rights to the Sigma Guitars name.
