General
The Motu 1248 Thunderbolt/USB sound card is part of a series of high-grade Motu audio interfaces. In essence, the 1248 functions as a mixer and a sound card in one. That's right - in addition to a wide range of analogue inputs and outputs (4x microphone, 2x guitar, 8x line in and 12x line out), it also features a built-in DSP chip. The latter allows you to control a built-in mixer and high-grade effects, using your laptop, smartphone or tablet. Controlling each individual input and output won't be a problem at all!
1248: Digital Possibilities
Connecting the Motu 1248 to your PC or Mac via USB is easy as pie. If your computer has a Thunderbolt connector, however, you're able to benefit from impressive bandwidth that enables you to both transmit and receive an amazing 128 channels simultaneously. And while we're on the subject of digital options: the 1248 features two times eight ADAT channels as well as RCA S/PDIF. Extending your setup is a cinch; simply connect a second interface (the 8M or the 16A) to the Ethernet port, or link three to five interfaces using the separately available Motu AVB Switch.
All-Round High-Quality
We've said it before, but it bears repeating: the Motu 1248 is a high-grade audio interface. No wonder it features top-quality converters (the renowned ESS Sabre32 Ultra), which in turn are connected to analogue circuits that are the result of thirty years of craftsmanship. The analogue outputs boast a dynamic range of 123 dB, and the sound card itself has an ultra-low hardware latency of 0.66 ms. The 1248's built-in effects, finally, have been carefully modelled after classic effect devices such as the LA-2A compressor and the British analogue mixer EQs.
