General
The high-quality Motu 8M is a comprehensive, flexible Thunderbolt/USB audio interface that can be used for just about any musical application. On the rear, you'll find eight XLR/jack combo inputs for your microphones, guitars, keyboards and external effects devices. And don't even get us started on the optical ADAT in and outputs (16 channels) and the eight jack outputs! It also has a powerful built-in mixer with top-notch effects that you can operate using your laptop, smartphone or tablet. Routing inputs and outputs is child's play!
8M: speed and communication
If your computer is equipped with Thunderbolt, you can be sure that 128 channels (in as well as out) will be no problem to send back and forth. In addition, you have a USB port at your disposal. Adjust the gain on the 8M's preamps (up to 53 dB) with the extremely accurate rotary knobs to prevent clipping with the hardware limiter (V-Limit). If you still need more channels, simply connect a second interface (the 1248 or 16A) via the Ethernet connector, and another three to five interfaces with the separately-available AVB Switch.
All-round top quality
As touched on previously, the Motu 8M is a high-grade audio interface. No wonder, as it features top-quality converters (the renowned ESS Sabre32 Ultra), which in turn are connected to analogue circuits that are the result of thirty years of craftsmanship. Furthermore, you're assured of an actual dynamic range of 123 dB, and the sound card itself has an ultra-low hardware latency of 0.66 ms. The 1248's built-in effects, finally, have been carefully modelled after classic effect devices such as the LA-2A compressor and the British analogue mixer EQs.
