In the budget corner, the choice of audio interfaces is very numerous, perhaps so numerous that you might wonder what the real difference is between all those simple 2-in/2-out interfaces. In the higher end of the wallet, interfaces already become a lot more interesting. One of the brands competing well in that area is MOTU, or Mark Of The Unicorn. The Motu 16A (2025) is obviously not the cheapest audio interface, but then this product is not made for musicians-on-a-budget. On the contrary: this is an absolute monster when it comes to studio&recording.

Features of the Motu 16A (2025)

Sixteen balanced line inputs, sixteen balanced line outputs, plus two ADAT inputs and two ADAT outputs. Everything goes smoothly to your computer via Thunderbolt 4 or USB4. No microphone inputs, but via a separately available ADAT interface you can still feed your mic signal into this MOTU 16A. It is much more an interface to combine with a mixer that can send its inputs per channel back out again. For example, a mixer in a large concert hall. You can combine and daisy-chain multiple units via AVB networking, should the 16 inputs not be enough.
