Ruim dertig jaar was ik grote voorstander van een middelgroot (vroeger zelf groot) plectrum. Die kleine spullen vond ik maar niks. Mijn handen zijn minder geschikt voor een klein plectrum.
De laatste jaren verdiep ik me meer bijzonder in jazzgitaar, en o wonder ... dat kleine Dunlop Jazz III plectrum opent een nieuwe klankervaring. Het zat in een setje plectrums dat mijn zoon bij Bax kocht, en I gave it a go.
Vooral qua melody en arpeggio picking werkt de Dunlop Jazz III heel soepel. Voor mij persoonlijk is de dikte ideaal om voldoende klank en helderheid te geven, en toch is de aanslag behoorlijk licht. Het kleine formaat maakt sneller spelen makkelijker.
Voor chord strumming vind ik het plectrum minder geschikt, maar voor jazz en blues biedt het echt een meerwaarde. Ik heb gelijk enkele exemplaren aangekocht.
