General

With the Enzo X, Meris presents a fully evolved edition of the OG Enzo and takes the pedal-style polyphonic synth concept to an impressively high level. With this box, you don't even need a special pickup, giving you direct access to five different synth modes and the integrated modular UI system that we first saw in the renowned LVX and MercuryX. Next to that, the Enzo X boasts six polyphonic voices and three high-quality reverbs, including the Prism algorithm from the MercuryX. Five drive modes have also been piled in, including a bit crusher, plus a stereo delay with a maximum 2.5 second tail. An extra five modulation effects come included as well, giving you every tool in the box needed to shape and mould the sound in surgical detail and, since this is a Meris offering, everything is dialled in via a set of satisfying and intuitive controls backed up by the same user-friendly interface as the LVX.

Wrote the following about Meris Enzo X Modular Instrument Synthesizer Pedal

Dit waanzinnig krachtige multi-FX/synth pedaal heb ik nog maar een week, en ik heb nauwelijks het bovenste 1% van het ijsberg heb kunnen ontdekken. Ik heb hem op een pedalboard met een Morningstar ML10X en ben aan het experimenteren met verschillende complexe chains in combinatie met overdrive en modulatie pedalen. Het is een ontzettend diepgaand pedaal, en het is makkelijk om te verdwalen in alle functies en mogelijkheden, maar voor mijn meest voorkomende applicaties was het best makkelijk in te stellen.

De synth sounds zijn fantastisch (die van de originele Enzo waren dat al), maar de nieuwe ambience en modulatie effecten zijn een grote plus voor mij. Deze heeft ook mijn HX One kunnen vervangen dankzij het ingebouwde tuner, noise gate, filter effecten, MIDI, en pitch shifting. De enige minpunten zijn dat de tracking soms niet 100% zuiver gaat, wat je eigenlijk wel zou verwachten in deze prijscategorie (een compressor ervoor helpt), en ik mis ook wel een smart pitch shifter/harmonizer. Misschien worden deze in een toekomstige update opgelost?

Niet te vergeten: deze is ook te bespelen met een MIDI keyboard en werkt nog beter dan met een gitaar!

Kortom: als je denkt dat deze pedaal iets voor jou is, en (bijna) alle functies wel zou willen gebruiken, dan kan ik het zeker aanraden! Maar als hij er ingewikkeld uitziet voor wat je nodig hebt, dan stel ik voor om eerst de gewone Enzo of een HX One te kopen, of om bijvoorbeeld voor een van de Boss SY-pedalen te gaan.

Lang nagedacht voor ik dit zou aanschaffen, mede vanwege de hoge prijs. Ik twijfelde ook nog serieus of het mijn al aanwezige synth pedalen overbodig zou maken. Maar na uitgebreid beluisteren van enkele diepgaande reviews. o.a. één waarbij alle 99 presets de revue passeerden, koos ik ervoor toch de sprong te wagen.

Het is gewoonweg een powerhouse van een synth pedaal. En gelukkig zijn mijn overige synth pedalen niet overbodig geworden, noch mijn modulatie-pedalen, aangezien dit pedaal in zijn diverse modi (mono synth, poly synth, arpeggiator, en de dry mode modulaties (in mono en poly modus) heel mooi is te combineren met vrijwel alle pedalen die ik tot nu toe heb verzameld.

Enige minpuint: er is, tot nu toe althans, geen volledige lijst van alle 99 presets online terug te vinden, ook niet in de handleidingen die Meris online heeft gezet, Dit zou voor mijn overzicht voor toekomstige composities wel handig zijn, voorlopig ben ik maar van start gegaan zelf een lijst van de presets te maken met hun bijzondere eigenschappen.

Absoluut de moeite waard voor de progrock/ambient denkende gitarist/basgitarist.
