Back in the good 'ole days, there wasn't nearly as much choice when you wanted to buy cymbals. That had some disadvantages, of course, but it also some advantages. Deciding exactly what to buy was a lot simpler, for instance. Many drummers chose Zildjian's original A cymbals back then because they were suitable for a wide range of music styles. That's why they feature on so many of the hit records between the 1940s and the 1970s. It's been a while since Zildjian produced them, but now they're back in the form of the A Avedis series.
Zildjian AA16HPR A Avedis 16-inch hi-hat
With a diameter of 16-inches, this robust hi-hat has a lower tone than you'd get from a standard 14-inch model. It has a well-balanced sound with excellent definition and stick response. While it might sound contradictory, its tone can best be described as bright and dark, surrounded by a wonderful wash layer that can be recognised from the original series. The top cymbal is a thin weight, while the bottom cymbal is a medium thin. This difference in thickness gives the hi-hat its typical chick sound. You can expect average volume with a relatively long sustain. Just like the original models, this hi-hat is suitable for a wide range of music styles, but the A Avedis cymbals really excel in genres like jazz, funk, rock, pop and world music.
Tips or comments about this product
Never clean A Avedis cymbals, as this can ruin the patina finish and influence the sound.
Colour variations in the patina finish are normal.
Never place the cymbals in direct sunlight or keep them in a hot environment for extended periods of time.
