General
They used to be rarer than teeth on a duck - today, you almost can't walk to a nearby pond without tripping over one. We're talking about USB/MIDI keyboards, of course. And as far as MIDI/USB keyboards go, Arturia's Keylab 61 Black Edition is a strikingly complete one. Sure, there are more elaborate controller keyboards available, but none boast an option list that's as long as the Keylab's. We warmly recommend the Keylab 61 to demanding producers. With 61 full-size keys, it's a proper all-rounder - with aftertouch!
Options of the Arturia Keylab 61 Black Edition
In addition to actually playing an instrument, making music today is also about controlling parameters, and a good slider or rotary knob will help you to operate virtual synths much more accurately (and a lot easier) than a computer mouse will. This Keylab has a plethora of controls, including sliders, knobs, buttons and pads. Naturally, it has pitch and modulation wheels, as well as - and take note, for this is exceptional - a connector for a classic breath controller, to control MIDI with your breath. Moreover, the transport buttons allow you to easily control your DAW, and thanks to the special buttons and fancy display, you can rapidly program the Keylab. Further still, this MIDI keyboard allows you to connect a sustain pedal, an expression pedal or another auxiliary pedal. You can send the MIDI to your computer via USB, but this controller also has classic (DIN) MIDI connectors. This Keylab truly is a master of all trades.
Software
Naturally, this keyboard is compatible with all DAW software, as it simply sends out MIDI data. Moreover, the Keylab comes with an impressive collection of virtual instruments. Analog Lab offers the sound engines of titles like Mini V, CS-80 V, Jupiter-8V, ARP 2600 V, Modular V, Oberheim SEM V, Matrix-12 V, VOX Continental-V and Wurlitzer V. There are over 6000 presets, so get ready to say goodbye to your evenings as a remote control couch commander, as they all deserve to be played. Even more tones come to you via the Solina-V (a vintage strings machine), the Prophet-V and the UVI Grand Piano Model D.
