General

The Arturia MicroBrute is the little brother of the MiniBrute, Arturia's celebrated compact analogue synthesiser. The keyboard has 25 micro-sized keys and the synth is not much bigger than a tablet. Via Octave Shift buttons, the range of the keyboard can be extended by several octaves. Pitch bend and (adjustable) modulation wheel are built-in. The MicroBrute has an analogue signal path, which fits right in with the current analogue revival.

MicroBrute: small but brave

The single oscillator can be directed via various dials, including the Ultrasaw and Metalizer, which we know from the MiniBrute. In the filter section, the Brute Factor control is also on board here, for a richly saturated sound. Even a small patchbay is present, as well as a straigh-forward sequencer. The MicroBrute may be particularly small in size, but the sound potential is not.

Wrote the following about Arturia MicroBrute UFO synthesiser

Hele fijne monofone synthesizer. Ik gebruik hem momenteel vooral als bas-synth in de studio. In combinatie met een plugin die de lage frequenties wat kan boosten (denk aan een Pultec EQ), krijg je moeiteloos zowel klassieke als unieke basklanken uit dit kleine beestje. Het apparaat doet precies wat het moet doen, en doet dat echt top!

Het enige minpunt vind ik de toetsen. Ze zien er prima uit, en het kleinere formaat stoort me niet, maar ze voelen wat vreemd aan. Het is soms even gokken waar de noot precies begint wanneer je een toets indrukt. Ter vergelijking: bij mijn Korg Minilogue voel ik dat punt veel beter.

Ik gebruik de MicroBrute vooral via de MIDI-in poort in de studio, en dan is het echt genieten. Terwijl de computer de noten speelt, kan ik zelf lekker aan de knoppen draaien en de sound tot in de puntjes tweaken.

Het is een heerlijk stukje hardware dat echt aanvoelt als een instrument. En dat is opmerkelijk voor de prijs vind ik zelf.
