With this extremely compact wireless LPD8 MIDI controller, you can record your ideas wherever and whenever you want. Make the most of this controller by coupling it with your mobile iOS iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth and enjoy a connection range of up to 30 metres. It's powered either via USB or by 3 AA batteries. This controller is plug-and-play, which means it doesn't require the installation of any external drivers to function. It also supports every type of DAW for maximum compatibility with soft synths, samplers, and virtual drum machines.

Ultimate control

The secret of the LPD8 lies in its tweakability. Thanks to four on-board memory banks, you can save your custom presets and call them up again. It’s also possible to assign controls to operate any function you want. A possible configuration could consist of a pad that acts as a trigger for a certain sound, or a CC or program change assigned to call up a certain function. Download the special software (for Mac and PC) from the Akai website to manage your own custom configurations.

Wrote the following about Akai Professional LPD8 Wireless

Ik gebruik deze midi-controller zowel in de studio als ook live voor totaal verschillende dingen. Dit is dan ook het eerste positieve punt wat ik wil uitlichten.
Met een druk op 1 van de functie-knoppen krijgt je lpd8 in een oogwenk een totaal andere functionaliteit. En per functie heb je nog eens 4 presets waar je uit kunt kiezen. Dit is voor mijn gebruik meer dan genoeg. Heb je meer nodig? Via de editor op je computer kun je eenvoudig andere presets inladen.
Met deze zelfde editor kun je ook heel gemakkelijk en snel presets maken. Kind kan de was doen!
De behuizing is van plastic, wat stevig en dik aanvoelt. Hij is met mij de halve wereld over geweest, en heeft me nooit in de steek gelaten.
De draaiknoppen zijn iets minder robuust, en sommige lopen dan ook wat aan. Dus als je hem vervoert, bescherm hem dan goed.
Een ander nadeel wat ik kan noemen is dat de opdruk niet erg slijtvast is. Vooral de witte lijntjes op de draaiknoppen vervagen snel.

Al met al een prima product dat robuust aanvoelt, maar waar je enigszins voorzichtig mee om moet gaan.

After they launched the LPD8 and the LPK25, Akai developed wireless versions of both these controllers, namely the AKAI LPD8 Wireless USB MIDI controller and the AKAI LPK25 Wireless USB MIDI keyboard. Both are equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0 LE (Low Energy) interface, but you can also connect them to your Mac or PC via USB, which charges them at the same time. When operating them via Bluetooth, both controllers require 3 AA batteries.
