General
An entire generation of producers have grown up mixing with nothing but a computer mouse. Previously, an army of faders and rotary knobs fitted to the face of gargantuan desks would have been needed to mix down the kind of complex tracks being made today. To blend the now virtual desk with the actual, Avid offer up the Artist Mix, a DAW controller that's not just hands on, but offers visual automation and parameter information and a lot more comfort than a computer mouse.
The Features of the Avid Artist Mix
The Artist Mix puts the workflow, resolution and DAW integration of Avid's high-end professional consoles on the desk of your home studio. Eight motorised faders and rotary knobs offer fast access to pan, EQ and plug-ins via clear information displays. The Artist Mix is slim enough to sit between the keyboard and computer monitor and can be coupled with other Artist Mix units for even more functionality.
The EuCon Protocol: Fast then MIDI
The Artist Mix makes use of the EuCon protocol to control your DAW. Connected via an ethernet port and in contrast to MIDI, this allows for more data to be transferred and with more accuracy, removing any possible problems caused by saturated MIDI buses. Pro Tools, Media Composer, Apple Logic, Apple Final Cut Pro, Steinberg Cubase and many other applications support EuCon, meaning that this little desk is able to control pretty much any of the software functions. On top of that, the Artist Mix has support for HUI and Mackie protocols for even more flexibility with other creative apps.
