You know the problem: a monitor mix system is usually just a bit too limited to double as a recording interface, and a recording interface is usually just a bit too bulky to clip onto your belt. The M8RX from Hear Technologies doesn’t solve this by making compromises; it does so by having eight channels work together seamlessly on a single small block of aluminium. Two discrete, ultra-low-noise mic preamps with 0.001% harmonic distortion (even at 60 dB gain – which is no small feat). Two line inputs, four Dante channels in and out. Everything available simultaneously, everything configurable locally, and the whole thing weighs just 270 grams. That’s about the weight of a round tin of biscuits, a quarter of which your author has already tucked into. In short, that weight is simply ridiculous. This isn’t the device for someone who’s just looking for an audio interface. This is for the monitor engineer who needs to control eight channels on stage without lugging a rack around, for the broadcast or home studio setup where Dante is already the backbone, and for anyone who knows the difference between ‘cheap and small’ and ‘small without compromise’.
