The Walrus Audio Lüm Black is a comprehensive Texture Engine FX pedal that takes you from subtle ambience to completely alienating soundscapes. Your signal is split into tiny ‘grains’ and then layered across various reverb layers, creating shifting backgrounds, glitches and dreamy textures. Ideal if you want to go a step beyond standard reverb, whilst still enjoying direct control and a musical result. The matt black finish also makes it a sleek addition to any pedalboard.

Three modes for ambient and experimental sounds

With the Lüm, you have three distinct sounds at your fingertips. Grain Cloud uses dual taps that read from a feedback delay line to create grainy textures; the X button lets you control the grain size and how often you hear the ‘glitches’. Grain Verb places that same granularity within a dense, washed-out reverb, where the grains are completely absorbed into the reverb. And with Forward/Reverse Verb, you can let a forward reverb transition into a reverse reverb, creating a playful, rhythmic interplay that’s perfect for cinematic layers and unique accents.

Moment Control, ramps and presets

What really makes the Lüm performance-proof is Moment Control. Hold down the Moment switch and automate one of the five knobs so that it glides in real time towards a preset target value. With three Ramp speeds (from ultra-short to slow), you can control how quickly this movement occurs. The Stretch Engine shifts the sample rate from 0.5x to 2x, allowing you to ‘stretch’ time and texture in creative ways. Finally, save up to three onboard presets and switch seamlessly between sounds, with trails or a clean cut-off.
