The Walrus Audio Lüm was originally released as a limited edition, but due to its success it is now back as a permanent model. This effects pedal is designed for modern ambient sounds and experimental sound design, with a clear focus on granular textures and expansive reverb soundscapes. Walrus combines the DNA of three well-known favourites – the Slö, Lore and Fable – into a single compact stompbox. The result is an inspiring pedal that can make your signal float, stutter, fan out or even bloom in reverse – ideal for everything from subtle ambience to full soundscape layers.

Three modes: from grains to reverse

The Lüm features three different modes to shape your soundscape. In Grain Cloud, a granular texture is built up from two taps in the feedback delay line, allowing you to control the grain size (and thus the ‘glitch’ density). Grain Verb takes this a step further by immersing those grains in a thick, hazy reverb, so that the grains disappear completely into the reverb field. In Forward / Reverse Verb, a forward reverb flows into a reverse reverb, creating a playful and rhythmic interplay between the two reverb layers.

Moment, Ramp and presets for live use

What makes the Lüm particularly expressive is the Moment function: hold down the footswitch and let one of the five knobs slide in real time towards a preset target value. With three ramp speeds (10 ms, 1000 ms or 5000 ms), you can determine how quickly this movement occurs. There’s also the Stretch Engine, which can shift the sample rate globally from 0.5x to 2x for unique variations in timing and texture. Finally, you can save up to three onboard presets with seamless transitions – handy if you want to switch quickly between different soundscapes whilst performing live.
