Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones or Louis Armstrong - some musicians only need to play one note and you instantly recognise who it is. So it was with Mel Lewis. Lewis' cymbal sound can be recognised from afar, and this is obviously due to his playing technique and the fact that his cymbals were handmade. Mel Lewis was the first drummer to get an endorsement with Istanbul Agop. After his death in 1990, his family decided to send the cymbals back to the Istanbul factory so that they could make a special tribute series.

Every cymbal from Mel Lewis' setup was carefully studied and analysed. Every dent, scratch and butch has been recreated, making the sound almost identical to Mel Lewis' original cymbals. This ride has a 20-inch diameter and a good stick definition, where you can hear the wood of your stick reflected nicely. The cymbal is hand-hammered and has a warm and dark timbre. Suitable for jazz, fusion, pop - you name it! The Mel Lewis 1982 ride is a true classic!
