World-famous artists like Paul McCartney hold their iconic Rickenbacker basses in very high esteem. This revamped Rickenbacker 4003 in breathtaking Midnight Blue is both timeless and comfortable to play. It was actually taken out of production for a few years, but brought back by popular demand as the 4003. Fortunately, its iconic look and sublime sound have remained unchanged, only the design and neck have been enhanced.

Construction

The maple neck and body combined with Rickenbacker pickups ensure solid bass tones and a long-lasting sustain. What really sets the Rickenbacker apart from the rest is its characteristic trebles, so when it came to sound, they didn't need to improve much with the 4003. The iconic look has also remained intact. Still, the 4003 did receive a valuable upgrade; namely, a dual-action tension rod. While the appearance hasn't changed much, the intonation and tuning stability have improved considerably.

Rickenbacker finishes

Ever since they began, Rickenbacker has offered their guitars in a number of standard colours, each with its own individual charm. The instruments are all finished by hand, which means no two are alike. This 4003 is available in Fireglo, Jetglo, Mapleglo, Midnight Blue and Amber Fireglo (see picture). This Midnight Blue edition is not a standard colour, which makes it especially rare.
