General

Three Korg Volcas were released in 2013. They are typical machines for (live) EDM; a bass synth, a drum synth and a more general synthesiser. With the Korg Volca Sample sample sequencer, a new member has been added to the Volca family. As the name says, this machine is made to play samples. There are already 100 samples built in so you can get started right away - they can be overwritten if necessary. You can add new samples via an iOS app that lets you use recordings from your iPad or iPhone.

Calling the Volca Sampler just a sample player does not do justice to the great creativity this product allows. In the centre of the control panel are 11 rotary knobs that allow you to adjust the essence of the sound - in other words, it is a modest synthesiser. A step sequencer is present; you can change and register the eleven synthesis parameters in this sequencer. So the effect of these eleven parameters in combination with the sequencer is a lot bigger than it seems at first sight.

Further possibilities

Playing is done with the multi-touch keyboard, with a maximum polyphony of eight. A reverb is present (per part) to make the whole sound more spatial. The 'analogue isolator' is in fact an equaliser that adjusts the bass and treble, leaving the midrange untouched. The most fun, of course, is when you start using the Volca Sample together with one or more other Volca models. To this end, Korg has put sync jacks on this machine. This machine also runs on batteries (6x AA, included), so you can express your creativity in any possible location.

A DC 9V power supply is not included with this product. However, x6 AA batteries are included.
Samples can be loaded using Caustic editing software from Single Cell Software. This program is available for Windows, OS X, iOS, and Android.

Ik hield mij nooit zo bezig met die kleine Volca kastjes. Vond ze er altijd wat vreemd uitzien. Ik heb zelf een Minilogue XD die ik steeds meer aan het verkennen ben. Het leek mij leuk om wat meer hands-on te kunnen werken, ipv altijd maar met je neus op je computer scherm te zitten. Vaak is produceren heel mooi, maar het gaat ten koste van je muzikale inspiratie. Dus ik wilde niet met automatiseren bezig zijn, maar gewoon weer lekker freaken. Minilogue en Volca dus.

De Volca sample is een te gekke machine. Okee samplen zelf doet hij niet, maar via de pc kun je alle samples die je zelf wilt inlezen via usb connectie. Dit duurt overigens wel een tijdje. De sequencer werkt zeer goed en ik stond er verbaasd over van hoe gebruiksvriendelijk deze Volca is.

Ik geef wel een tip mee voor Window gebruikers. Hetzelfde probleem kwam wat ik ook bij mijn Minilogue naar voren, je usb connectie en het te downloaden programma werken niet als je Windows midi kanaal boven de 10 staat. Het gaat van 0-16 en Korg vindt het blijkbaar nodig om onder de 10 te staan. Verwijder dus iets om het werkend te krijgen.

Verder leuk apparaat, pitch mogelijkheden, attack, reverb, tempo, sequencer. Ik ben al aan het kijken naar de volgende Volca. En die koop ik vast weer bij BAX, want daar krijg je goede service en snelle bezorging.y

Connect niet aan een Mac/computer herkent de sampler niet, ook niet met de juiste drivers. Oftewel je kan geen samples inladen in een sampler. Schijnt een groter probleem te zijn met Korg. Waardeloos ding! Gelijk terugbrengen die hap.

Ik ben na HELEMAAL klaar met deze shop.
Ik koop braaf een (B-Stock) Korg Volca Sample 2 sample sequence. Toch een beetje om het milieu denken.
Doet de Volca Sample 2 het niet eens. Batterijen waren leeg... kan gebeuren als B-Stock. Nieuwe erin... niks. Ik voelde de bui alweer hangen Dan maar een juiste adapter adapter gebruiken waarvan de polarisatie goed is!..Juist... niks.

Ding direct weer terug in de doos gedaan en maar weer retourformulieren downloaden. Ook een drama trouwens. Laatste keer dat ik iets heb besteld bij deze "geweldige" shop. Mij zien ze hier (als goede klant) absoluut niet meer terug.

Een fijne eerste stap in de sample sequencing. versie 2 heeft een USB aansluiting, Voor Windows zijn er enkele programma's en ondersteuning. Ik heb het idee dat de ondersteuning met Apple beter/uitgebreider is. Een adapter erbij kopen is wel verstandig, al worden er batterijen en een 3.5MM Stereo Jack kabeltje, maar geen usb kabel meegeleverd. De ingebouwde luidspreker maakt geluid en daar is ook alles mee gezegd. De mee geleverde samples zijn goed, maar niet geweldig. Daarvoor kan je internet afstruinen, of zelf maken, natuurlijk. De bediening is eenvoudig, vaak logisch, maar tutorials volgen op Youtube helpen. Na ervaring wordt het snel een heerlijke apparaat om tijd (en stilte) te verdrijven.

Wat een verschrikkelijk leuk appararaat is dit zeg. In de eerste week is het me al gelukt om enkele eigen producties te maken waar ik leuke reacties op krijg (zonder enige muzikale kennis/opleiding).
YouTube staat vol met tips en trucs welke echt helpen om een vliegende start te hebben.
De meegeleverde software voor de Volca Sample 2 doet wat het moet doen (samples overzetten) maar verder zit er ook een leuk pakket aan extra software bij.

Het enige nadeel is dat je als je bezig bent met tweaken je de tijd vergeet en het voordat je het weet heel veel uurtjes sample-plezier hebt gehad.
