In the mid-twentieth century, the jazz saxophone experienced a heyday. D'Addario Woodwinds brings back the sound of those days with the Select Jazz mouthpieces for alto saxophone. The basis of that sound lies in the mouthpiece. The D7M is made from a special hard rubber by machined milling process. The tip opening is 2.10 millimetres, the largest in the series. Such a large tip opening requires more control, but then also delivers a bigger, fuller sound.

A jazz saxophonist often uses notes from the entire range. Here, the mouthpiece can sometimes cause differences in tone between high and low.
